HEROS OF LIFE Campaign

Their battle with cancer does NOT stop due to COVID -19

Our HEROES OF LIFE Campaign during this second wave off the COVID-19  pandemic, will provide sick children with basic humanitarian and medical needs to keep them safe and ensure their recovery.  Please help support our children who are our true HEROES!

Today, we’re living in an unprecedented time that has challenged us in ways we never thought possible. We are resilient and will get through it. For a child with cancer during this pandemic, their resiliency is being TESTED, their challenges are GREAT, and their fight is HARD!

You can you help our children and families survive this crises by supporting one of our priority needs below:

1. Humanitarian aid to LTL families for Basic Food and Living Costs

When the COVID-19 crisis hit Israel, most of the sick children’s families were already struggling to get by with only one source of income – its common that one parent must give up his/her job to care for the sick child throughout the treatments. With COVID-19 many others lost their jobs and were left with no income to provide for basic needs as healthy food, electricity and adequate living conditions needed when dealing with treatment side effects. LTL’s oncology ward support coordinators are inundated with calls for help from more than 100 families now applying for emergency financial aid. Most families are unlikely to find new jobs during late summer and Jewish holiday month.

  • $2,000 – Support ONE (1) family with financial help – $500/month X 4 months
  • Goal – Raise $200,000 provide support for 100 families
2. Safe Transportation to Hospital Treatments

Many of our sick children are from lower income families and live in affordable housing outside major cities, far from hospitals. During the pandemic public transportation is not safe and private transportation is the only way to ensure that the sick child will get safely to treatments and avoid any exposure. Many do not own a car and cannot afford the extremely high cost of using private transportation to and from hospital.

  • $600 – Private transportation (Taxi or Ambulance for ONE (1) child per month.
  • Goal – raise $30,000 – provide monthly transportation for 50 children.
3. Medication and Essential Health Testing

When traditional treatment is insufficient for the child’s cancer, it becomes necessary for doctors to use innovative precision treatment – DNA tests and medication – the costs of these treatments are not covered through Israel’s national Health Insurance. LTL steps in to ensure the child receives the best possible treatment by purchasing the medication from the pharmaceutical company and has it delivered to the doctor to administer at the hospital. Cost is determined by Genomic test and type of medication.

  • $2,500 – $5,000 – Medication and Health Testing Financial Assistance per Family
  • Goal – Raise $250,000 – $500,000 to help 100 families
4. Designated Tablets and Laptops to Enable Communication while in Isolation

LTL have adapted activities to this unique and unusual reality and created online activities, educational programs, meetings and sessions to support to children and youth isolated at home or hospital, with special attention to the children’s emotional and educational needs.

  • 1 tablet is $350, 1 laptop is $1,000
  • Goal – Raise $50,000 to provide 50 families with designated devices for the sick child
